Frequently asked questions

Does Homeopathy Work?

A study at Bristol Homeopathic Hospital of over 6000 consecutive patients with chronic illnesses revealed that 70% experienced improvement in their symptoms.

Another study in Nottingham found that a significant number visited their GP less often and were able to reduce or stop their conventional medication.

There is further evidence for the effectiveness of homeopathy emerging from India and America.

Lab tests in America have also shown encouraging results.

What conditions do patients who consult a homeopath suffer from?

Most conditions, including irritable bowel syndrome and other digestive problems, chronic fatigue, skin problems, candida (thrush), migraines, asthma, bronchitis, cystitis, recurrent colds, sinusitis, joint pains, childhood illness, women's health, depression, insomnia, anxiety, stress, low energy, bereavement and many others.

A homeopath works with what the body is saying by producing symptoms and matches a remedy to the whole patient rather than trying to treat a particular illness label in isolation. That means I don't need a label for your symptoms (a diagnosis) but I do need to listen to you and find out more about you as well as your symptoms.

Why come to a homeopath?

Perhaps you just can't use conventional medicine because of other medical conditions, pregnancy, side effects, sensitivity to medication or because of interactions with other drugs which you are already taking.

You may be seeking to enhance your general health without having anything specific or serious enough to warrant seeing your doctor.

It may be that despite thorough testing conventional methods have been unable to find anything wrong even though you feel unwell.

Homeopathy seeks to improve the body's innate ability to heal itself.

Is homeopathy safe?

Homeopathic remedies contain little or none of the original substance from which they are made by a special process. This means:

  • They are safe to use with conventional medicines as they work at an entirely different level.
  • They do not produce side effects in the way that conventional medicines can.
  • It is impossible to become addicted to them.
  • Remedies are also very environmentally friendly in their development and production and no one is making big money from them.
What ages are patients who come to a homeopath?

Homeopathy is suitable for all ages from pregnancy, birth and through to old age.

How do I know that my homeopath is properly qualified?

Registration with the Society of Homeopaths is denoted by the letters RSHom and indicates that the practitioner has trained at a recognised school (usually a four year course) and has been further assessed or examined by the Society to ensure they are competent to practise. Members must also adhere to a code of ethics.
